MNF: Seahawks Defeat Wilson, Broncos

Jonathan Grant | September 13th, 2022

Seattle Seahawks 1, Russell Wilson 0. At least for now, that is. After a marriage that was bound to end in divorce at some point, the quarterback was traded to the Denver Broncos in the offseason, and it didn’t take very long for his return to take place. Monday Night Football, the first edition of the season, on week 1 was the time he returned to Seattle, and it didn’t exactly go the way he would have wanted, with his new team dropping to a 17-16 defeat after a 64-yard field goal missed with less than 20 seconds to go.

Field Gulls

Wilson was very efficient and masterful, throwing for well over 300 yards (340) and a touchdown on 29-42, and he helped Denver move the ball for over 430 yards, but Geno Smith and co. did enough to outlast their former QB. Smith was wonderful here, too, going 23-28 in the air for 195 yards and two TD’s while also being a constant running threat on the ground. It’s a fairly large upset, it must be said, and it might just give Seattle the confidence it needs to go and attack the season.
