It was a very quiet day in the world of baseball on Monday with only three games going on, but there was still a pretty big one taking place in San Diego as the Padres hosted the Chicago Cubs in a potential clash that we could see in the postseason.
The Padres were just a little bit too good on this night, leaning on Manny Machado and Brian O’Grady for most of their offense in a 9-4 win. O’Grady and Machado both had three RBI’s apiece with both homering. Machado had two sac flys to go with his homer while O’Grady added a double to the mix. The win sees the Padres move to 1.5 games back of the Giants in the NL West picture while the Cubs’ loss means they fell a half-game behind the Brewers in the NL Central.
