Padres Defeat Kershaw, Dodgers And Close Gap

Jonathan Grant | September 15th, 2020

The San Diego Padres are all about winning right now, and that urge has them looking to close in on division rivals Los Angeles. The Dodgers have been the front runners in the NL West for so long, and it hasn’t been close, that many still didn’t expect the Padres to make a run at them. But if Monday night’s game is anything to go by, they certainly have a chance at it.

Their 7-2 win in LA puts them just a 1.5 games off the pace of the Dodgers and it came courtesy of a one-run outing from Dinelson Lamet and a five-run explosion of offense in the seventh frame from their hitters. That is eight consecutive victories for the Padres now, and it has them breathing down the necks of the Dodgers for the top place in the division. Even if they don’t get there, this is a team that few will enjoy facing come the postseason. That much is for sure.
