Padres Seal Postseason Return

Jonathan Grant | September 21st, 2020

For the first time in 14 years, the San Diego Padres will be returning to the MLB Playoffs. That was confirmed on Sunday as they defeated the Seattle Mariners 7-4 (in the 11th inning) in an ‘away’ game held at their own park. Both teams had plated runs in the tenth inning, forcing another extra frame in which Mitch Moreland doubled to put the Padres ahead for good.

This marks the first time the Padres have made it to the postseason since 2006, and they will hope to win their first playoff series since 1998 when they get there. At present, they are mathematically still able to catch the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL West crown, but they are four games back with just six games left, making that a highly unlikely prospect that means a Wild Card hosting gig is probably going to be their assignment.
