Panthers Move To 3-0 But Lose Two Players

Jonathan Grant | September 24th, 2021

Whenever you hold another team to less than 200 yards of total offense, you have to feel pretty good about your chances of obtaining a win. That’s exactly what the Carolina Panthers did on Thursday night, and in doing so, they picked up a win to go 3-0 on the new season by overcoming the Houston Texans 24-9. It’s the fifth time in the history of the team that it has started this well, but it did not come without a cost.

Field Gulls

Christian McCaffrey, by far their best player and one of the NFL’s most exciting stars, went down with an apparent hamstring injury in the second quarter while Jaycee Horn, the eighth-round pick in this past year’s Draft, went down to a broken foot. Sam Darnold was one of the centerpieces of the win for the Panthers, throwing for 304 yards on 23-34 and scoring two touchdowns on the ground. As far as wide receivers go, both DJ Moore (126 for Carolina) and Brandin Cooks (112 for the Houston Texans) had over 100 yards in the outing. The Texans fell to 1-2 with the loss despite a reasonable debut start from Davis Mills in which he completed 19 of 28 passes and had a TD toss.
