The New England Patriots are the talk of the town, so to speak, in the NFL at the moment. On Sunday, it was revealed that the league had punished them for the latest ‘cheating’ scandal in which they were accused of. The instance, of course, was when a cameraman was caught filming the sideline of the Cincinnati Bengals during a game. This is against league rules, and many felt the Patriots would again evade action.
They did not, with the league imposing a $1.1 million fine, as well as the loss of a third-round pick in next year’s Draft and a banning of TV production crews this upcoming season. Just when we thought that was the most news we’d get out of them for a while, sources made it clear that the team was set to sign free agent quarterback Cam Newton. It’s being said that the former Carolina Panthers man will join the Pats on a one-year deal as he seeks to revitalize a career that has fizzled out in the last few seasons. The deal is said to have a lot of ‘incentives’ in it, and it will be interesting to see if Newton is able to come out on top of the likes of Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham to make himself the #1 after the departure of Tom Brady to Tampa Bay.
