Patrick Cantlay’s new nickname is going to stick around for quite a while. There’s no doubt about it now. A week after being dubbed “Patty Ice,” he went and backed it up in Atlanta at the Tour Championship on Sunday to become $15 million richer by winning the FedexCup Playoffs.
On the 17th hole, Cantlay had to make a six-foot bogey putt just to stay up by a shot. He held his nerve and did just that before heading to the 18th where he would clinch the one-stroke victory over Jon Rahm. Rahm just fell short after failing to make enough putts, and the Spaniard will now hope he and his European teammates will be able to get a measure of revenge when the Ryder Cup comes around soon.
