The NBA Finals are officially underway as of Tuesday night. And the Phoenix Suns are the team that have jumped out in front, taking Game 1 at home by a score of 118-105 against the Milwaukee Bucks. The main star of the evening? None other than Chris Paul. Having waited well over a decade, 16 years to be precise, to reach their Finals, he was finally there, and he did not let the moment pass him by. Paul scored 32 to lead all scorers and he also dished out nine assists for a near double-double.
Devin Booker, of course, wasn’t too far behind with his own showing. He struggled from the floor and from three-point range, yet he still managed to drop 27. Deandre Ayton was also a force inside, scoring 22 on 8-10 from the floor while also grabbing 19 rebounds. The win was the Suns’ first in the Finals since 1993 and a was a fourth consecutive series in which they took a 1-0 lead. The Bucks, who were technically at full strength as Giannis did suit up, were led by Khris Middleton’s 29 in the defeat. Giannis, who was a big doubt prior to the game but increasingly became more likely to feature, scored 20 and also grabbed 17 rebounds in the loss. Not a bad return from injury at all in 35 minutes of action. Apart from the loss, that is. Game 2 is in Phoenix on Thursday night.
