Phillies, Marlins Return Via Doubleheader Action

Jonathan Grant | August 6th, 2020

After missing a substantial amount of time on the diamond due to Covid-19 positive tests, both the Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins returned to action on Wednesday in the form of seven-innings doubleheaders, as the league and players’ association had agreed to due to the unique situation. The Phillies started off well, winning 11-7 over the New York Yankees in a slugfest. The Yankees led 3-0 after two frames, but visitors brought home four in the top of the third and 11 in a row between the third and sixth to make it 11-3. A late comeback from the Yankees was not anywhere near enough to mount a serious threat.

In the night cap, the Yankees got a bit of revenge, winning it 3-1. They were the ‘visitors’ in that game, getting a pair of RBIs from Mike Tachman and Gio Urshela in the seventh to hand them the win. Aaron Judge stayed hot, hitting his seventh homer of the season in Game 1. The Marlins, meanwhile, took advantage of playing the Baltimore Orioles to sweep them over the course of the doubleheader, winning 1-0 and 1-2 respectively in pitching duels. Brian Anderson hit a home run in game 1 for the win and also singled in what proved to be the winning run in the second game to complete a brilliant day.
