There are plenty of wild ideas being bandied about all over the world of sports as leagues and teams try to get back to work. The NBA is no different, with some suggesting that players be placed on cruise ships and others promoting Disney as the ideal venue for finishing its season. Yet another idea that has been mooted by some was that of having a ‘play-in’ tournament to get into the playoffs.
Practically the move would be done in order to curtail the rest of the regular season. In order to get some to agree to this, it looks as if dangling the carrot of the playoffs to a less-than-stellar team might be the incentive needed. Despite this, however, it’s been made very clear, according to reports, that this will not be done. There are regional TV packages already out there, and it’s said that the league is more interested in fulfilling those obligations instead of coming up with clever marketing tricks. On top of that, both the East and West have a very clear top eight currently, meaning it would be highly unfair to potentially take that away for a less deserving team.
