Predators Defeat Avs In High-Scoring OT Affair

Jonathan Grant | January 12th, 2022

The NHL, quite simply, put on one hell of a game on Tuesday night as the Nashville Predators welcomed the Colorado Avalanche to town. Nine goals found the back of the net in the contest and overtime was needed in a wild back-and-forth encounter. Nashville led 2-0 after the first period thanks to goals from Tanner Jeannot and Luke Kunin, but Nicolas Aube-Kubel dragged Colorado back into by scoring and then setting up a goal for Andre Burakovsky to tie it up in the second.

Kunin responded with his second of the game for the Predators, but Nathan MacKinnon found the net on a power play in the third to once again tie it up at three apiece. Matt Duchene put the Predators in charge exactly halfway through the third with a power-play goal, but young Cale Makar equalized a few minutes later and that took the game to OT. Once there, we didn’t have to wait too long to crown the winner. Duchene scored after about three minutes, from a power play again, and that clinched a 5-4 home win that won’t soon be forgotten. That’s five straight wins for the Predators now and their 12th win from their last 14 outings. It was all the more impressive, too, as they ended a five-game run for the Avalanche as well! Keep an eye on both of these teams as the calendar moves forward.
