The Atlanta Braves have made a pretty surprising move following their 14-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night. Starter Mike Foltynewicz, who gave up six runs in three and 1/3 innings (including three home runs), has been placed on assignment by the club.
This means that he will either go on waivers or will be traded soon, basically ending his career with the Braves in a flash. At one time, he was a highly thought of prospect, but things have just not worked out for him in Atlanta the way many anticipated. He will now be available for a low price, so teams might be lining up for him. In the game itself, the Rays’ pitchers combined to strike out 19 Braves batters, a team record for a nine-inning game. Hunter Renfroe hit a pair of home runs and Brandon Lowe had a big day as well to help them get to 3-1, on top of the AL East for the time being.
