If sources are to be believed, the trade that was being discussed earlier this week between the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Rams is indeed occurring. What was a possibility merely being talked about now appears to be a definite, as Matthew Stafford is departing the Lions for the Rams and Jared Goff is headed back the other way. Along with Goff, it looks like a number of draft picks are also headed Detroit’s way.
Those included two first-rounders, in 2022 and 2023, as well as a third-rounder for this year’s draft. Stafford, who is 32 years old, has significantly, suddenly, shifted the Rams’ odds of going to a Super Bowl simply by moving across the country. That’s despite having only played in three playoff games for the Lions over the years. Meanwhile, Goff, who was also a #1 pick like Stafford, had been with the Rams for five years. He had his ups and downs, including going to an NFC Championship and a Super Bowl berth, but they have largely struggled since then, prompting this big move between former #1 picks.
