It was a big night for both San Diego State and Arizona State basketball on Thursday night. They alone were the only men’s college basketball teams playing, and it was a game between ranked teams at that, making it even more special. At the final buzzer, though, it was #24 San Diego State that came out on top, winning 80-68 over the #23 Sun Devils. That puts them at 5-0 on the season, while their opponents dropped to 3-2. they got their in large part due to two men.
Jordan Schakel scored 25 points to give them a good head start, while Nathan Mensah also had an immense game. He put up 17 of his own while also grabbing 15 rebounds, underlining how dominant the Aztecs were in the paint throughout the contest. To reiterate that, ASU shot a significant 7% higher from three-point range yet were nearly 10% behind in overall field goal percentage. That shows just how good the Aztecs have become, continuing their strong play from a year ago and no doubt making them a threat toward any team they might come up against.
