It’s been whispered about for the last few weeks that the New Orleans Saints and quarterback Drew Brees would likely be parting this offseason. Not because they want to; more like because they need to. That’s because Brees is, apparently, set to retire, with the latest clue coming in the form of a substantial pay cut.
Brees, according to sources, is going to be taking a cut from $25 million all the way down to $1.075, the veteran’s minimum, for the 2021 season. This salary cut would help the team lighten the load of the amount they owe to him and allow them to try and build a team to go on into the next era without their star QB. Currently, Brees leads the all-time chart for most passing yards and also is second in completion percentage and touchdown passes.
