Matthew Stafford wanted a chance to win a Super Bowl, and he got that opportunity last season- and took it- when he moved from the Detroit Lions to the Los Angeles Rams. He’s now being paid for his success, as the title-winning quarterback has reached a four-year deal said to be worth up to $160 million.

Sources indicate that a vast chunk of it ($135 million) is to be guaranteed as the Rams look to shore up their QB situation as they seek a defense of their crown in the 2022 season. Stafford, a former #1 overall draft pick, will be 38 when the deal runs its course, so the two sides will be able to reevaluate then if he’ll be one of the latest players to continue playing excellent football deep into his career or not. Stafford had 4,886 yards passing and 41 touchdowns last season in leading the team to the NFC West title before going on a playoff run despite having never won in the postseason as a Lion. Sources indicate that the Rams are also looking to extend defensive end Aaron Donald and to bring back Odell Beckham, Jr.
