The Dallas Stars are headed to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in two decades after they sealed progression on Monday night in Game 5 of their series with the Las Vegas Golden Knights. The Knights led from the first period to the third by a 1-0 score line and then added a second early in the third period, but the Stars kept at it and eventually leveled up via Jamie Benn and Joel Kiviranta’s goals.
In the overtime period, it was Denis Gurianov that played the role of Vegas’ heartbreaker, as he scored on a powerplay, like Kirvanta had, to send them to the next round. They will now party like it’s 2000 and hope to add to the Cup they brought home in 1999. They will either face the New York Islanders or the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Finals, with Tampa holding a 3-1 series edge heading into Game 5.
