Justin Thomas came into the weekend as TPC Sawgrass a ways back from the top of the leaderboard. He left on Sunday at the very top, having rallied back from seven strokes down after two round to claim victory in the Players Championship. Heading into the fourth and final round, in fact, he was down by three and competing in the next-to-last group.
That gave him the chance to apply pressure, and he did just that. He ended up shooting a -4 68 to win the tournament by one over Lee Westwood and two over Bryson DeChambeau and Brian Harman. Most of his damage came between nine and 12, as he made birdie, birdie, eagle (which gave him his first lead), and then another birdie. The -12, which is a tie for the all-time Players low, victory was his 14th Tour win and the first he’s had this season.
