It’s been a season full of teams coming and going toward the top of the NCAA Men’s College Basketball rankings. But over the course of the last few weeks, one team has stepped in and taken control. That team is, of course, the Baylor Bears. The #1 team in the nation faced a tough test, albeit at home, on Saturday when they welcomed #14 West Virginia to town. But in the end, they cruised away with a 70-59 victory that took them to 23-1 overall and 12-0 in the conference. Speaking of which, that made it 22 consecutive Big 12 wins now for the Bears, tying them for the most in history.
As for this game specifically, they were paced by Jared Butler’s 21 points. 16 of those came in the first half as they built such a steady foundation that they never once trailed to the Mountaineers. The losing side were led by 20 points from Taz Sherman. Gonzaga continues to keep them honest, sitting in second at 25-1. Kansas is third, but San Diego State, who are undefeated at 24-0, are fourth and ready to make some noise should anyone slip above them.
