The NHL, though reorganized from what we saw in the past, returned on Wednesday night, and it did so with a bang as the game pitting the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Montreal Canadiens was about as exciting as it gets. It had just about everything you could want in it: lots of goals, back-and-forth leads, and even an overtime period.
Montreal’s Josh Anderson and Toronto’s William Nylander each scored twice apiece while Leafs’ John Tavares had a goal and two assists in what turned out to be a 5-4 OT win. Morgan Rielly was the man to win it in OT, getting a pass from Tavares on a breakaway and firing it in with less than two minutes to go in the extra period. That puts them at 1-0, obviously, for the season, and it means we’re off to a real flyer.
