Two-Minute Drill: Red Sox Win Fifth Straight, Freeman Returns To Atlanta

Jonathan Grant | June 25th, 2022

1st Down: The Boston Red Sox are making a bit of a run at the moment, running their winning streak up to five games on Friday night with a 6-3 victory in Cleveland over the Guardians. Christian Arroyo, fresh off the back of being on the Covid list, returned by hitting a two-run homer that put his team ahead for good and racked up three total RBIs in the triumph while Nick Pivetta pitched seven solid innings of two-run ball. The Red Sox, in addition to winning five straight, have also taken eight of their last ten, putting them on top of the AL Wild Card pile currently. Elsewhere, Freddie Freeman returned to Atlanta as the Los Angeles Dodgers won 4-1. Freeman received his World Series ring and scored two of the runs and Trea Turner had three hits and the other two runs in the affair. The Dodgers now have won four in a row and lead the NL West by a game over the Padres.

2nd Down: Elsewhere, Freddie Freeman returned to Atlanta as the Los Angeles Dodgers won 4-1. The Braves, meanwhile, fell a little bit further off the pace of the Mets in the NL East due to a loss and a Mets win over Miami.

3rd Down: The Charlotte Hornets got a bit of bad news when their top choice, Kenny Atkinson, to be their next head coach turned them down in order to say with the Golden State Warriors, but they have their new (old) man as of Friday, with the news that Steve Clifford would be returning to the team coming down. Clifford coached the team for five years in a tenure that ended in 2018, and he will look to continue to build a young squad into a contender. Clifford is known for being a strong defensive coach, and that will be one of his major tasks as the team has been lacking in that department of late. Most recently, Clifford was in charge of the Orlando Magic before being a consultant for Steve Nash’s Nets this past season.

4th Down: According to sources, and fairly public knowledge, the New York Knicks have a lot of interest in Dallas Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson. They’ve scouted him during the playoffs, and now it looks like they are, according to a report, going to make a big play to land him. After moving Kemba Walker during the NBA Draft earlier this week, this is much more of a reality as far as cap space is concerned, and now Brunson will have a choice to make. Does he stay in Dallas as the clear #2 guy or does he move to the Big Apple and become the primary ball-handler? Only time will tell.
