1st Down: Rory McIlroy is in control of the PGA Championship after one round. Thursday saw him come out and post a superb -5 65 while playing in the same group as Tiger Woods. Woods, for his part, struggled with his leg and limped to a +4 74 on the day. Will Zalatoris and Tom Hoge each trail McIlroy by a single shot at -4 while three players are just one more shot behind after the opening round.
2nd Down: Boston Red Sox second baseman Trevor Story came into Thursday’s game with the Seattle Mariners with just two home runs on the season. He left with five as he racked up three home runs, seven RBIs, and five runs in a 12-6 victory. The story also stole a base and had a single in the sixth that contributed to his team taking the lead for good. Not a bad night at all, is it?

3rd Down: The New York Mets keep finding ways to win, and they did so on Thursday afternoon in ten innings thanks to Pete Alonso’s heroics. The slugger homered in the bottom of the tenth to walk it off and hand his team a 7-6 win, adding to an earlier RBI single. The Mets had committed two errors and were outhit, but they found a way, and they now sit atop the NL East standings by seven over Philly.
4th Down: Everton confirmed their status in the Premier League for yet another season on Thursday as they came from 0-2 down to Crystal Palace at home to win 3-2. The Toffees had been in relegation trouble just a few weeks ago, but a run of results recently saw them get out of trouble. The fans poured onto the pitch after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s 85th-minute goal and they did so once again when the final whistle was blown.
