For the last couple of weeks, it’s looked like the Italian Serie A title race was all wrapped up for Juventus. Inter Milan and Lazio had faded, yet there was a distant threat that was slowly but surely reeling them in in the form of Atalanta. Coming into Saturday’s match up between them in Turin, Atalanta were nine points back with seven to play.
A win over Juve and two more losses for the leaders down the last six games would have given them a chance. But that was not meant to be, as Juventus somehow escaped with a 2-2 draw on Saturday via two Cristiano Ronaldo penalties that followed handballs. Atalanta led twice via Duvan Zapata and the efficient Ruslan Malinovskyi and controlled the ball for a considerable amount of time. But Juventus grinded it out, somehow, and were able to remain nine points ahead. They should see this one out now, though it’s been enjoyable to see Atalanta come out of nowhere and challenge like this.
