Kamaru Usman said he was going to make Jorge Masvidal put respect on his name. He did just that on Saturday night in Jacksonville in front of a packed house at UFC 261. The defending welterweight champion kept hold of his crown with an emphatic display, knocking out the brash Floridian in the second round with the stiffest of right hands.
The first round had been largely dominated by Usman despite Masvidal landing a few shots. Usman had landed some of his own, but his wrestling saw him take the round. The second round is where some had their jaws dropped, as Usman, not known for his striking prowess, finished off Masvidal with one hard shot. That strike ended all talks of the two’s rivalry and has settled the score once and for all. Usman can now move on and defend his title against new challengers after knocking out Masvidal for the first time in well over a decade.
