It’s early in the season in college basketball, but there was a big shock on Friday when Virginia lost to San Francisco. It’s not the first time we have seen the Cavaliers, currently ranked at #4, have lost to a team they probably shouldn’t have, but the credit owed to Dons should not be taken from them.

Jamaree Bouyea led them with 19 points on the afternoon, and they capitalized on a late 8-0 run to stun their much bigger, more recognized opponents 61-60. The win, which sees them rise to 2-1 thus far in a third straight day of action, was their first over a ranked opponent since way back in 1981 when they beat Wichita State. To say they were underdogs is a big understatement, with bookmakers having them favored to lose by over 15 points. In the end, they were way off the mark, as the Dons pulled off one of the biggest wins in school history.
