March is typically the time of year for big upsets in the world of college basketball. But we got a couple of them on January in the women’s realm that should hold us over until then. First up, #19 Arkansas collected a 90-87 win over #3 UConn thanks to, in large part, Chelsea Dungee’s 37 points. That was the first loss for the Huskies on the season, and it saw the Razorbacks move to 12-6 overall.

Elsewhere, Virginia Tech pulled off an even bigger upset, knocking off #2 North Carolina State by a score of 83-71. The Hokies got 28 points from Aisha Sheppard in the victory, with 12 of those coming from the free throw line. It had looked like it might have gotten away from them, too, as the Wolfpack nailed a desperation three-pointer to force overtime. Only once there, the Hokies ran away from them, sealing a win that puts them over .500 at 8-7 and thus sending NC State to its first loss of the campaign as well.
