The #1 UConn Huskies were pushed to the limit on Monday night in their Elite 8 match-up with #2 Baylor. In the end, they even needed a bit of help to get the job done, but at the end of the day, they found a way to advance past the Bears and into yet another Final Four in women’s hoops. The 69-67 victory assured them of a 13th consecutive Final Four, and it saw freshman Paige Bueckers stand out with a game-high 28 points.
Despite that, though, the controversy did reign as a foul could have been called with five seconds left and the Bears down one that could have totally changed the complexion of the game. Sometimes you need to be lucky and good, and UConn was certainly that on this evening. In the other game of the night, #3 Arizona toppled #4 Indiana 66-53 to book their clash with UConn. Most of the damage was done in a strong 20-9 final quarter, and on top of that, Aari McDonald had a monstrous double-double that included 33 points and 11 rebounds. This will be their first outing to a Final Four as a result, but they will face a massive task to take down the Huskies in San Antonio.
